Cast and Cure technology VS Inkjet Cold Foil technology

Home>>Blog>>Application>>Cast and Cure technology VS Inkjet Cold Foil technology

Cast and Cure technology also known as film casting or laser transfer printing, is a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly inline printing process that produces high-gloss, 3D holographic effects through the use of UV/EB coatings and specialty films.

Cast and Cure process is done by laminating the Casting Film to a wet UV coating or varnish:

  1. Wet UV varnish is applied to a substrate.
  2. The film has a glossy, matte or holographic image or pattern with embossed design, and when it comes in contact with the varnish, the varnish fills in the embossed area. Then the UV light is passed through the film to cure the varnish leaving the image or pattern on the surface of the varnish.
  3. The film then separates from the varnish rolling back up and leave the desired pattern on the surface of the substrate.
The embossed pattern can bend the light to produce 3D effect. The casting film can be reused again and again showing a true cost savings.

Cast and Cure is an excellent option for adding visual impact to packaging, and it can also be customized with security and anti-counterfeiting features to protect brand identity for more than 12 years.

The conventional Cast and Cure process is that the UV coating application can be done by one color station of printing press for spot coating application or by roller coating machine for flood coating application; and the pattern transferring application can be done by lamination station. But the whole process of Cast and Cure can be done digitally through Inkjet Spot UV Coater for coating application and Cold Foil for pattern application.

Cast and Cure technology VS Inkjet Cold Foil technology

  • Cast and Cure technology is a decorative finish to printing and packaging for mass quantities while Inkjet Cold Foil technology is for short-run and personalized printing and packaging.
  • Cast and Cure technology produces visual 3D holographic effect while Inkjet Cold Foil technology produces tactile 3D effect.
  • Cast and Cure technology highly depends on the pattern of specialty film while Inkjet Cold Foil technology depends on the design files.
  • Cast and Cure technology has only gloss, matte and holographic design while Inkjet Cold Foil technology has wide craftsmanships.
  • Specialty film in Cast and Cure technology is kind of cold foil; Inkjet Cold Foil can use the specialty film of Cast and Cure technology while it can use color cold foils.
  • Cast and Cure technology is traditional printing process while Inkjet Cold Foil technology is digital means.

JetTouch Inkjet Spot UV Coater with Cold Foil can do “cast and cure” application for printing and packaging industry.
